Camera basics - Photography
Lets be honest, asking a photographer about the camera he uses is very similar to asking a chef about the type of pot he uses to cook. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and as a photographer or videographer for that matter, you need to have the ability to see beauty in things other people just can't see.
But what is the point of being able to see something beautiful without having the knowledge to capture it?
Even if you have the equipment to capture fantastic shots, there is no point if you don't know the bare basics of photography. Well on every DSLR camera there are manual settings you can use to optimize your beauty capturing capabilities.
Photography is simply the art of capturing light. Our eyes see nothing but light, and different frequencies of light make up different colors etc. Cameras use the same principle basically, but since we have a brain, we need to tell the camera how to look as light in different situations.
Camera settings have 3 equal parts (in terms of settings) that control what it sees. Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed. Lets say that these settings form a triangle when it comes to lighting control.
Aperture: This setting allows the iris of the camera to open or close depending on the setting, this setting also sets the focus sensitivity. This setting is also referred to as F stop.
ISO: This setting allows your pictures to be artificially brightened up by the cameras sensors. The camera does this by brightening pixels. But be very careful when using this setting because, the higher the ISO, the lower the picture quality becomes because of Grain or Noise.
Shutter Speed: This one is pretty much self explanatory. The higher the Shutter Speed, the less motion blur will be captured, but also remember, the camera will have less time to pick up light IE. the picture.
